The Women’s Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services (WA), formerly the Women’s Refuge Group of WA Inc was established in 1977 and is now representing 54 Women's Refuges and domestic and family violence services in Western Australia.

The Women’s Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services (WCDFVS) is a state-wide peak organisation committed to improving the status of women and chidren in society. They seek to ensure that all women and children live free of domestic and family violence.

Their role is to provide a voice on domestic and family violence issues that facilitates and promotes policy, legislative and programmatic responses relevant to women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence. The WCDFVS operates from feminist perspective and proactively advocates for social justice in order to further empowerment, access, equity and safety for all women and children.

Our Services

The core functions of the Women's Council for Domestic and Family Violence Services (WA) are the provision of:

  1. Sector and Policy Development: promoting the protection of women and children, by representing their needs to policy and decision makers;
  2. Representation and Advocacy: the WCDFVS provide expertise and knowledge in the area of domestic and family violence on a range of local, state and national committees and advisory bodies;
  3. Community Education: preventing domestic and family violence through public awareness and education programs;
  4. Research and Training: providing up-to-date reaserch and information on emerging issues and trends related to domestic and family violence; and
  5. Information and Referrals: working with the community to maximise safety and protection of women and children.

Strategic Plan 2008 - 2011

The key objectives of the WCDFVS Strategic Plan 2008 - 2011 are to:

  • Strengthen our unified voice on domestic and family violence issues;
  • Maintain the WCDFVS as an indeoendent, viable and credible organisation;
  • Improve the access of women and children to Women's Refuges, Safe Houses and services which seek to deal with the effects of domestic and family violence;
  • Provide leadership in the area of domestic and family violence issues to key stakeholders and the community;
  • Increase the community awareness of the incidence, effects and responses to domestic and family violence;
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in the development of policies, legislation and programs which impact on women and children experiencing domestic and family violence; and
  • Ensure access and equity for all members in rural and remote locations.
